Do you have an Advisory Board?

Let’s talk about Advisory Boards to take your Business to the next level and manage Rapid Growth!…As your company grows the role of the Founder / CEO changes as the complexity of your business increases throughout the journey. As you grow you will need to systemise your business, manage a growing number of staff and expanding into different specialist areas including marketing and sales, operations and inventory management, cash flow and financial management.

As an early stage Founder, a Business Coach / Mentor is very important to keep you focussed through the early stages of validation and initial growth, but as your company gets to $5-10m revenue I strongly recommend an Advisory Board of specialist skillsets to take your business to the next level and manage the challenges of rapid growth.

What does a strong Advisory Board cost? - not as much as you think. It may equate to another executive staff member in total but what you gain in skills, governance and credibility is enormous.

What key skills or areas of expertise should you have on an Advisory Board? It will be different for each company depending on the industry, the CEO’s own skillset and what key skills are missing in the company’s leadership to set the strategy, provide governance and take it to the next level of growth. An Advisory Board is also huge benefit to family businesses that often have difficulty getting decisions made within the family members. Having some external directors who can provide an independent perspective often helps to unlock opportunities and move family businesses forward.

I currently Chair two boards and participate on others, and willing to help founders get their advisory boards established.
